Teacher Feature: Meet our SIUD Star
Here at Step It Up Dance we love to showcase our fantastic team, including our teaching assistants. Say hi to Sabrina, our SIUD Star Teaching Assistant! As well as gaining valuable work experience at our regularly Saturday classes, we are also extremely grateful to Sabrina for always lending a hand at our annual shows. Thank you Sabrina, we love having you on board! Here's what Sabrina had to say about her experiences so far ...
Q: What dance-related experience and qualifications do you have?
A: I started dance when I was in primary school at that time I did hip hop and I'm now in 3rd year of high school and do Contemporary and Jazz. I started off dancing with Step It Up Dance around about 4 years ago. I am doing Dance at school and aim to get my National 5 qualification next year.
Q: What is your favourite age group to assist with?
A: I like to teach younger children (nursery and primary children) to show them that dance is a great way of having fun and also so that they can become a more confident person.
Q: Tell us a funny thing a child has said to you in class
A little girl in Hip Hop Juniors (our age 3-5 class) once pointed at another girl in class and said she is trying to copy my style. The girl she was referring to was my elder sister Amber who was a Teaching Assistant in the class at the time. The little girl just thought that Amber was being a copy cat!
Q: What fun facts would you like to share?
A: I have always been interested in ghost, spirits and theories that people have. I find it all very interesting to learn more about. I love watching horror movies.
Q: How has dance helped you?
A: Dance has helped develop my confidence and the team at Step It Up Dance (especially Emily who runs the weekly classes that I assist with) have made me feel comfortable, enjoy the classes and now in turn I love to help other kids within these classes.
