Terms & Conditions | Step It Up Dance

Step It Up Dance® is an award-winning urban dance company delivering a range of high quality services, from Nursery classes to Parent & Child (age 18m – 5), Hip Hop Juniors (age 3 – 5), Urban Dance Academy (age 5+), Freestyle Breakdance and Performance Crew classes. Our classes are run by professionally trained, qualified dance teachers who are all members of the PVG Scheme (managed and delivered by Disclosure Scotland), are First Aid trained and trained in Child Protection.

Step It Up Dance classes run 39 weeks out of 52 per year. All of our classes taking place within local communities ('community classes') operate via a subscription payment system with the cost being spread over 12 months, meaning fees are payable every month, including when no classes are taking place. All of our classes taking place within nurseries ('nursery classes') are bookable per term and full payment must be made in advance of any classes taking place in order to secure your child’s place. A notice period of 30 days is applicable to all subscription bookings.
 
Please make sure you are happy with all details before making payment as due to fixed costs Step It Up Dance is unable to offer refunds.
 
Clothing: Please bring your child along to class wearing comfortable footwear and clothing and ensure that little knees are covered (for sliding). We offer a company uniform which is comfortable and safe for your child to dance in and will help them feel part of the Step It Up Dance crew. Please see our online shop where you can purchase all uniform and other merchandise items.
 
Food & drink: Our classes are highly active so please bring along a bottle of water for your child. No food or fizzy drinks please.
 
Photography & filming: Step It Up Dance will take regular photographs and film footage of participants for staff training and curriculum development purposes, as well as our own promotional purposes, including social media. This does not include classes within nurseries. If you do not wish your child to be photographed/ filmed please let us know before your child's first class.
 

Ratios: Step It Up Dance is an activity provider, not a registered day care service. This means that we are not legally required to follow staffing ration guides. However, in order to maintain good practice, we always aim to adhere to Education Scotland's National Care Standard Guidelines for adult to child ratios which are:

Under 2 years: Ratio 1:3

Age 2-3 years: Ratio 1:5

Age 3 years & over: Ratio 1:10 (as all children within this age group spend less than 4 hours per day with Step It Up Dance)

Age 8 years & over: Ratio: 1:10

Parents/ guardians of children taking part in our Hip Hop Juniors classes must remain within the vicinity of where the dance class is taking place (but not in the room where the activity is taking place) throughout every class. Step It Up Dance and our team members, although members of the PVG Scheme and trained in Child Protection, are not registered care practitioners and as such, parents/ guardians have the responsiblity to be on hand to take their own child to the bathroom during class should they so require plus the provision of any additional care as required.

Parents/ guardians of children taking part in our holiday camps for age 3-5 years: by signing your child up to take part in this camp, you are confirming that you are aware that your child will be accompanied to the bathroom, but not escorted into the bathroom. Your child must be confident to visit the bathroom cubicle and wash their hands independently.

Parents/ guardians of children taking part in our Urban Dance & Breakdance Academy classes, please ensure that your childre are left only uder the care and supervision of a Step It Up Dance teacher and are left under the care of, and collected directly from, said class teacher at the start and end of each class.

Important notice: 
  • Please do not leave your child unattended for any length of time in any of our class venues.
  • Fees are non-refundable or transferable and we regret that missed sessions cannot be refunded or carried over. We regret that there is no reduction in fees for non-attendance due to illness or any other reason.
  • We hope you will stay with us for a long time! However, we understand that children grow, so one month't paid notice is required should you decide to leave Step It Up Dance.
  • Step It Up Dance is an activity provider, not a registered day care service. This means that we are not legally required to follow the staffing ration guidelines.   • Parents/ guardians of children taking part in our Hip Hop Minis and Family Hip Hop Crew classes must remain with their child throughout the class, these are highly interactive classes for adults and children to enjoy together. 
  • Parents/ guardians of children taking part in our Hip Hop Juniors classes must remain within the venue where the dance class it taking place (but not in the room where the activity is taking place) throughout every class. Step It Up Dance and our team members, although members of the PVG Scheme and trained in Child Protection, are not registered care practitioners and as such parents/ guardians have the responsibility to be on hand to take their own child to the bathroom during class should they so require plus the provision of any additional care as required. 
  • Parents/ guardians of children taking part in our Urban Dance and Breakdance Academy classes, please ensure that your children are left only under the care and supervision of a Step It Up Dance Teacher and are handed over to, and collected directly from, their class teacher at the beginning and end of each class.
  • Your personal and contact details are never shared with third parties.

Fees: Subscription payments (community classes):

  • Fees will be collected by subscription on the 1st of each month.
  • If your child joins their Step It Up Dance class after 1st of any month, that month's fees will either be added on to your first monthly subscription payment (and taken on 1st of the following month) or can be paid on a credit/debit card of your choice by calling our team on 07428 110 135. For example, if your child begins classes on 2nd February, February fees must either be paid over the phone in advance, or both February & March fees will be taken by subscription on 1st March (2 months in total). If this needs further clarification, please don't hesitate to contact us.
  • Step It Up Dance classes run on 39 of the 52 weeks per year (during school term time). Your payment plan covers the annual cost of classes and is spread equally over 12 months of the year. Therefore fees/subscriptions are still payable during school holiday months (including July) when no classes are taking place.
  • Children not continuing classes into the next school year, subscriptions will be cancelled after your July payment (subject to one month's notice being provided in June).

Term payments (Nursery classes):

  • All nursery classes must be booked and paid for in full and in advance of your child's first session. Fees are non-refundable or transferable and we regret that missed sessions cannot be refunded or carried over.
  • Details will be provided in advance of class dates and any public holidays or dates when classes cannot take place.
  • Should a class not go ahead due to reasons outwith the control of Step It Up Dance (for example adverse weather conditions, nursery closure for any reason/ nursery trip/ event taking place meaning that the class cannot go ahead), Step It Up Dance cannot be held responsible for any missed classes.
  • Every effort will be made to avoid injury during classes and Step It Up Dance will not be held liable should an injury occur during a class.

General Terms:

  • By booking with Step It Up Dance you confirm that you are satisfied with the safety arrangements in place at classes.
  • Step It Up Dance teachers are First Aid trained and will administer appropraite first aid to students if required.
  • Step It Up Dance teacher cannot be held responsible for children before or after their specified lesson times.
  • By booking you confirm that you have read, understood and are satisfied with our full terms and conditions.
